Our History
J.F White and Son is a name synonymous with building and timber craftsmanship in and around the Wide Bay and Fraser coast areas. Established in the 1940’s by John Francis White – Jack as he was known to most – built many local homes and buildings around the district.
In 1957 Jack’s son Brian began working with him on various projects including the re-modelling of the Maryborough Base hospital, the original St Stephens Hospital, new spire roofing to local churches and the telecom building to name a few.
In the 1980’s White’s began to construct quality joinery items out of their Alice St workshop along with their usual building work. Supplying locally built doors, windows and timber mouldings to various building projects .
Then in 1990 after a number of local buildings were set on fire by a serial arsonist, Brian was given the contract to repair the damage caused to the city hall after the arsonist attempted to set fire to the council chambers and the hall balcony. New cedar panelling, windows and doors were all carefully constructed to replicate the hall’s original timber joinery.
With Jack approaching retiring age and the demand for quality timber joinery growing, Brian gradually transitioned the business to become Maryborough’s only timber joinery at that point in time. Over the next fifteen years Brian helped train three of his sons – Paul, Chris and Lucas – to became trade qualified joiners and wood machinists. All enjoying the challenge and satisfaction that comes with achieving highly skilled work.
Some 80 years on from when Jack first started work the family team with over 90 years of combined experience are still here providing the same great service, advice and quality timber joinery from their factory on Alice St.
